Anguilla - In a proud milestone for Anguilla's youth development and sports community, five talented student-athletes from the island have successfully graduated from Menaul High School in Albuquerque, New Mexico, as part of the Class of 2026.

J'quan Samuels, Cameron Gumbs, Sanyje Harrigan, Kai Smith, and Sage Alfred received their Menaul High School diplomas during a heartfelt graduation ceremony on Saturday, May 23rd, 2026. Samuels and Gumbs completed two full years of study at the institution, while Harrigan, Smith, and Alfred successfully completed one year.

The students were surrounded by proud parents, family members, friends, and well-wishers who travelled to New Mexico to celebrate the significant achievement.

The opportunity for the five athletes arose after they were scouted by Coach Najmuddin Pharoah Ahmad, Head of Basketball Operations at Reach One Teach One - Building Bridges to Success and A Pharaoh's Touch, during the annual Summer Basketball Camp organized by the Top Hill Basketball Club on Anguilla.

Mrs. Evette Harrigan, President of the Top Hill Basketball Club, expressed delight in the momentous occasion saying "Today marks more than just a graduation, it represents the power of vision, dedication, and community. These five young men have made Anguilla proud. Their success demonstrates what is possible when we invest in our youth through sports and education. We are extremely grateful to Coach Najm Ahmad, Beresford Mack and Menaul High School for believing in our boys."

Coach Najm Ahmad, Head of Basketball Operations, stated that "These young men showed tremendous character, work ethic, and resilience from the moment I met them on Anguilla. Watching them graduate today fills me with immense pride. This is what 'Building Bridges to Success' is all about, creating real pathways for Caribbean youth to access world-class education while pursuing their athletic dreams."

J'quan Samuels, who once again finished as State Champion in High Jump and Long Jump, explained that "Leaving Anguilla was difficult, but it was the best decision I've ever made. I've grown academically, athletically, and as a man. I'm grateful to my family and coaches for their support."

Cameron Gumbs, who alongside basketball picked up fencing as an additional sport at Menaul, shared that "Two years ago I came here with big dreams. Today I leave with a diploma, lifelong friendships, and a clearer vision for my future. This experience has opened doors I never knew existed."

Sanyje Harrigan, who also excelled at American football during his time in New Mexico, shared "I'm proud to represent my island and my family. This journey taught me discipline and perseverance. I'm excited for the next chapter."

Kai Smith, who plans to play collegiate football at his chosen college, expressed his gratitude saying "Being far from home wasn't easy, but the support system here made it worthwhile. I've matured so much and I'm ready to take what I've learned back to help others in Anguilla."

Sage Alfred, who also turned his talents to track and field, said "Graduating today feels surreal. Thank you to Coach Najm, Top Hill Basketball Club, and my family for believing in me. This is just the beginning."

The five graduates are expected to pursue higher education opportunities in the United States, with several receiving interest from college athletic programmes.
