Albuquerque, New Mexico - Anguilla's J'quan Samuels has set a new state record in the high jump, clearing 6' 9¼" to win the Class 2A boys event at the New Mexico Class A-3A State Track and Field Championships held at the University of New Mexico Track-Soccer Complex.

Samuels was among several athletes to rewrite the record books at the championships, where, as reported by the Albuquerque Journal, records fell "early and often." His record-setting leap topped the Class 2A boys high jump field and added another milestone to a breakout season on the track.

Samuels, who attends Menaul High School after earning a basketball scholarship, was first scouted by Coach Najmuddin Pharoah Ahmad at the Reach One Teach One - Building Bridges to Success Summer Basketball Camp, organized by the Top Hill Basketball Club in Anguilla. He took up track and field following the basketball season and has rapidly developed into one of New Mexico's premier high school jumpers.

The performance underscores Samuels' remarkable athletic versatility and continues a run of success that has made him a source of pride for both Anguilla and Menaul High School. His achievements highlight the growing impact of the Top Hill Basketball Club's youth programmes and the pathways they are creating for talented Anguillian athletes.
